CHRISTMAS BELLS

Merry Christmas, friends!
Have you ever had an opportunity to really study the stories behind Christmas carols? I’ve always found them to be so intriguing! One traditional Christmas song, “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day,” began as a poem penned by Charles Longfellow of Cambridge, Massachusetts, on Christmas Day in 1863.
WRITTEN DURING A DARK SEASON
It was written during a dark season of deep despair not only for Mr. Longfellow, who at 57 years old, became a widower with six children, one of whom had been severely injured in the Civil War, but also for his country, as they all witnessed the perils war brings upon its people.
During this dark time, Charles Longfellow began worshiping Christ in spirit and in truth. He was then able to discover the hope and confidence to reach out and powerfully restore inspiration, patriotism, and the flame of faith, hope, and love within the hearts of his fellow countrymen through the writing of this beloved poem. In the midst of a season where so many were suffering pain, loss, and hopelessness, Longfellow’s message of peace encouraged his fellow friends and family to get back up and fight the good fight of faith. Little did he know when he wrote it that this poem would become a favorite Christmas carol sung to encourage us during dark seasons for generations to come.
So how was it possible for this man to be able to rise up over the despair of his great losses? One thing remained constant in his life, his relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. Many who have studied the “glory story” behind this Christmas carol, can feel moved not only by the sadness, but also by the great joy! It is so fitting for where we are in our world today and how we should be trusting in God while we pray for peace and righteousness. Longfellow’s song is a reminder, also, that God is alive and righteousness shall prevail!
JESUS IS OUR PEACE
Dear friends, during this precious Christmas season, my prayer for you and the rest of this world struggling in evils and darkness, is to extend from my heart the greatest gift I can express. May you truly know just how much Jesus loves you! May you, too, find the time to be holy and the strength you need through ardent worship in spirit and in truth! Only the Great God I AM can bring the gift of true and everlasting peace and restoration.
Jesus is our hope and our confidence. He will take us through any and all dark seasons, restoring righteousness, faith, and our confidence! Reach for Him today and share your heart with him. He cares deeply for you! Give him your honor and praise, trusting He alone can heal your despair and turn your mourning into dancing!! May you, too, hear the clear words from Mr. Longfellow’s song:
“God is not dead, nor doth He sleep;
The Wrong shall fail,The Right prevail,
With peace on earth, good-will to men.
Merry Christmas! Wishing you and your loved ones, rich blessings in the new year, 2024!
Jesus is the light of the world!
Love and prayers,
